After all, not everyone can be as close as Hugh Jackman is with Ryan Reynolds. A good example of this is Dwayne Johnson’s recent comments while being interviewed as part of his ongoing promotional tour for the upcoming Disney film, Jungle Cruise.
It looks like the Johnson v Diesel feud is far from over
Johnson and Vin Diesel starred in four blockbuster action movies together, starting with 2011’s Fast Five. Two of these movies grossed well over $1 billion each in the box office. Considering the success of the Fast & Furious movies, you’d think that these two lead stars would be friends in real life, but you’d be wrong. The highly-publicized feud between the two Hollywood superstars had gone on for a while before it peaked in late 2019. Instead of letting the disagreement fester, the two reportedly made amends that same year. As a result, fans believed that all was well and good between the two buffed-up actors. Then, Fast 9 came without Dwayne Johnson in it. Naturally, fans started wondering. Was it a scheduling issue? After all, Johnson’s had a full plate these past two years. He’s spent time working on Disney’s Jungle Cruise and the DCEU’s Black Adam. If Johnson’s recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter is to go by though, it appears that the feud isn’t over just yet. While promoting Jungle Cruise, Johnson was asked to provide a comment about a statement that Diesel made last month. In particular, the one that involved Diesel justifying his treatment of Johnson at the time of their feud as “tough love”. Diesel explained that he was simply doing anything he could to get the acting performance out of Johnson that he wanted to see. Basically, Diesel was saying that he was teaching Johnson to act. Johnson response, in the interview, was simply: “I laughed and I laughed hard.” After wishing Diesel and the rest of the crew luck while confirming that he won’t be in the next two Fast & Furious films, Johnson’s other statements suggest that the two aren’t exactly on the best terms. His Jungle Cruise co-star, Emily Blunt, couldn’t even help herself but chime in on Diesel’s “funny” comments. In the same interview, Blunt joked and said, “Just thank God he was there.Thank God. He carried you through that.” This seemed to amuse Johnson as the two of them laughed, with Johnson chuckling while saying “Felliniesque.” The late Italian director Frederico Fellini is one of the most influential filmmakers of all time. So, when Diesel compares himself to someone of such stature, you can’t exactly blame Johnson nor Blunt for their reaction.
