EA might have a troubled history with the Star Wars franchise, but its subsidiaries have almost always done the source material justice. Case in point, 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order by Respawn Entertainment and 2020’s Star Wars Squadrons by Motive Studios. Now, it’s just confirmed something that fans have known for a while - Respawn is working on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2. Reports of a Fallen Order sequel first emerged last year with one insider believing that EA will reveal the game soon and another claiming that it’s going to be released later this year. So far, EA has confirmed the former - and more. According to EA’s official press release, Respawn Entertainment’s founder, Vince Zampella, is overseeing three new Star Wars games across different genres. In addition to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2, EA is working on a strategy game with Greg Foerstch’s Bit Reactor as well as a Star Wars-themed first-person shooter with Peter Hirschmann at the helm. Many consider Fallen Order as one of the best Star Wars games of all time, so it’s only fitting that Respawn get a chance to oversee EA’s latest adventures in the galaxy far, far, away. What is interesting here is Hirschmann’s first-person Star Wars shooter. There was an earlier report that Respawn was working on a “stylish” first-person shooter that is not a Titanfall sequel, so this might just be it. Having said that, EA is far from the only publisher and studio working on a Star Wars game. After EA lost its exclusive rights to the Star Wars franchise early last year, others have taken the opportunity to announce their own Star Wars games. Case in point, Quantic Dream’s action-adventure Star Wars game set in the High Republic Era as well as Aspyr Media’s remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for the PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, EA refused to reveal more information about its upcoming Star Wars games. But, with only a few months to go before this year’s EA Play, it probably won’t be too long before we get a chance to see the games in action.
