According to a cryptic message from Rhythian on Twitter, PlayStation Studios is currently working on several Marvel games. A closer look at the emojis used by Rhythian suggests that Daredevil, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Punisher, and Captain America games are all in development. Technically, Spider-Man’s PS-exclusive game is already confirmed after Insomniac dropped a trailer for 2023’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 last year. In addition, the Ratchet & Clank studio is also working on a Wolverine game, which currently does not have a release window.
👨🏻🦯👊🏼🦾👨🏻🕷👨🏻 🔫😈🫡🇺🇸 — Rythian | #LetsGoPens 🐧 (@LumberjackRy) February 13, 2022 Having said that, Rhythian’s words aren’t official, by any means. The leaker has a spotty track record of getting things right and occasionally making stuff up. But, while Rhythian isn’t the most trusted source, we wouldn’t be surprised if there are several PlayStation Studios games based on Marvel properties in the works right now. Case in point, Amy Hennig, who is a former Naughty Dog director, confirmed last year that Skydance New Media’s first project is a AAA Marvel game. Not to mention, Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann once mentioned that he’d like to make a Punisher game, so maybe that wasn’t just wishful thinking but a tease of more to come? Either way, it would pay to keep a close eye on whatever Sony announces in the coming months. Assuming that there are several Marvel games in development over at multiple SIE-owned studios, we can only hope that they are all set in Earth-1048. This is the same universe birthed by Insomniac when they released Marvel’s Spider-Man. In doing so, Sony will have created its video game universe composed of different Marvel properties, effectively turning the PlayStation into the home of Marvel games. If it’s any consolation, there are other Marvel games in development right now. On top of what we’ve already mentioned, Firaxis Games’ Marvel’s Midnight Suns is on track for a March 2022 release. In other news, Netflix is about to lose all of its Marvel TV shows starting on March 1. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios just launched a new trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness at Super Bowl LVI. The latest footage for Benedict Cumberbatch’s nth MCU outing is teasing a multiversal affair that dwarves that of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
