For players, it looks like the game is alive and well as content is constantly being added to the game. However, a prominent Marvel’s Avengers is singing a different tune. The popular leaker Miller went on The Lunch Table podcast a week ago and shared info about the future of the superhero action-adventure game. According to Miller, the future of Marvel’s Avengers looks “grim”. He went on to say that the game will not reach version 4.0.
Miller also revealed that She-Hulk was originally planned for release after Black Panther. The development team decided to switch her out with Jane Foster. Miller shared the devs want to introduce new characters with smaller content first and ramp it up until they introduce a new hero with 100% new content. According to the discussion in the podcast, the voice actor for She-Hulk already recorded her lines and Miller’s already seen the in-game character model for the superhero in the game. Miller also shared that staffing changes and a focus on improving multiplayer gameplay led to She-Hulk being delayed by Crystal Dynamics. The leaker is optimistic that She-Hulk will be part of the roster once the Embracer Group can provide the development team with the budget and manpower needed to create fully original content. The Embracer Group acquired Crystal Dynamics back in May along with other Square Enix assets. Marvel’s Avengers is part of a new wave of video games based on Marvel Comics alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man. Unfortunately, it didn’t sell well unlike Insomniac Games’ take on the superhero comic book franchise. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy by Eidos Montreal, which was also previously owned by Square Enix, did a lot better with critics and fans but wasn’t considered a financial success. Hopefully, now that Embracer Group owns Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, the holding groups can give the studios the necessary support to make better games going forward. Crystal Dynamics is currently working on a new Tomb Raider game.
