Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered’s arrival on the PC was one of the biggest surprises of the June State of Play showcase. The 2018 title effectively served as Insomniac Games’ audition piece for Sony Interactive Entertainment. After the game received critical acclaim and sold well, Sony acquired Insomniac Games and it’s been a first-party studio since. But, while the Spider-Man games look awesome on the PS4 Pro and the PS5 via subsequent updates, you can’t deny that it would be awesome to see the game on a more powerful machine like a top-of-the-line gaming PC. For the latest trailer of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Mike Fitzgerald, the studio’s core technology director, took some time to talk about what Insomniac and the port specialist studio, Nixxes Software, have in store for PC fans. According to Fitzgerald, the studios prioritized making the game “a visual stunner on the PC platform.” This meant that the game will now support “PC users with varying hardware.” The studio also introduced “some new techniques and tools to push things even further,” such as ray-traced reflections for those with capable hardware, including a “new, higher-quality ray-traced mode that offers even more city detail.” Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will benefit from proprietary technology like Nvidia DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and Nvidia DLAA (Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing) as well as a “wide range of display ratios” such as 21:9, 32:9, and even multi-monitor setups. Finally, Fitzgerald will have “additional quality levels and algorithmic options,” which all confirms that the PC port will be the definitive edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man. Sony closed out the blog post by revealing that pre-purchasing the game will include early unlocks for additional Spider-Man suits, the Spider-Drone combat gadget, as well as 5 extra skill points. Sony talked a lot about bringing more of its PlayStation exclusives to the PC over the past two years and its recent acquisitions reaffirmed the company’s commitment. By acquiring Nixxes Software, Sony will guarantee that most if not all PC ports of its games will be of the highest quality. Also, Sony revealed in a shareholder meeting in May that it is expecting its PC ports to earn $300 million before the current fiscal year ends. It appears that the first to drop will be Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. We’re still waiting for word when Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and The Last of Us Part 1 are coming, but we’re pretty sure we won’t have to wait for too long. Speaking of the PC ports, Sony hasn’t confirmed the arrival of Ghost of Tsushima, Returnal, and Horizon Forbidden West on the PC after details of the games were found in the now-infamous Nvidia GeForce Now leak.
