Sony Is Teasing a Play at Home Update Soon
Sony’s free games lineup for the Play at Home initiative this 2021 has included some of the best games on the PS4 and PS5 such as 2016’s Ratchet & Clank reboot and 2018’s Horizon Zero Dawn. In an official blog post, SIE Content Communications Senior Director Sid Shuman detailed how players can get their hands on a free copy of Horizon Zero Dawn. In addition to this, Shuman also teased that fans should expect another update soon. Although Shuman did not confirm what other games are coming to PS4 and PS5 owners as part of the Play at Home initiative, the fact that the initiative will add more free games to its lineup is still great news. In addition to Horizon Zero Dawn and Ratchet & Clank, Sony has also given away the likes of Enter the Gungeon, Rez Infinite, The Witness, Subnautica, and many more. Speaking of giveaways, Sony has also ramped up the quality of free titles that they’ve given away to PlayStation Plus subscribers. Sony headlined their March lineup with Final Fantasy 7 and followed it up with Days Gone in April. There are also rumors that Sony plans on making MLB The Show 21 available to PlayStation Plus subscribers in May, in response to Microsoft securing the Sony first-party title’s availability at launch on the Xbox Game Pass.
What’s Next for the Play at Home Initiative?
Sony is sitting on a treasure trove of first-party titles. Last year, Sony offered Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey as part of the initial run of its Play at Home initiative. However, this year’s offerings have followed a rather noticeable pattern. Both Ratchet & Clank and Horizon Zero Dawn will see sequels release later this 2021. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is set to launch in June 2021 with Horizon Forbidden West expected to come in 2021 as well. If the pattern continues, we might just see Sony make the likes of God of War available for free to all PS4 and PS5 owners. Similar to Horizon Forbidden West, Sony teased a 2021 launch window for the untitled sequel to 2018’s God of War. Although Sony has not talked much about the upcoming first-party title since confirming that it is in development, many still believe that they’ll release the direct sequel in 2021 unless otherwise stated by Sony.
