An E3 2021, Obsidian announced that a more ambitious sequel, set in an entirely new solar system, is on its way. While the upcoming RPG title is still in its early stages of development, Obsidian’s been kind enough to reveal a ton of useful info about the game. Here’s everything that there is to know about The Outer Worlds 2.
Is there an Outer Worlds 2 Trailer Available?
Obsidian released a hilarious cinematic trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 at E3 2021, as part of the Microsoft-Xbox showcase. As you can see from the trailer (shown above), The Outer Worlds 2 is not going to be too different from the first game. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Many considered the 2019 title as a spiritual successor to Fallout: New Vegas, which ranks among the best spin-off games ever released. This means that players can expect the same open-ended nature that emphasizes choices and their consequences, as well as the studio’s unique and dark sense of humor.
When Is The Outer Worlds 2 Release Date?
Outer Worlds 2 might have been revealed at E3 2021, but the studio did not share a release date for the game. Even the trailer itself says that the game still early in its development cycle. This means Obsidian probably hasn’t had much time to work on it yet. It isn’t surprising since the second piece of DLC content for The Outer Worlds was just released last March 2020. If it’s any consolation, we do know that The Outer Worlds 2 has been in pre-production since October 2020.
Is The Outer Worlds 2 An Xbox Exclusive?
Another thing that Obsidian Entertainment did not confirm about The Outer Worlds 2 is which platforms it will launch on. The original 2019 game was a multi-platform release that was available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows when it was released in October 2019. A Nintendo Switch version was launched at a later date in June 2020. Now that Microsoft has acquired ZeniMax Media, which owns Obsidian Entertainment, The Outer Worlds 2 might be exclusive to the Xbox Series S/X and the PC. The only thing we know so far is that The Outer Worlds 2 will be available on the Xbox Game Pass the same day that it will launch.
What Kind of Gameplay Will The Outer Worlds 2 Have?
Obsidian hasn’t confirmed what changes The Outer Worlds 2 will make to the gameplay to separate it from the first game. We do know that The Outer Worlds and the Fallout games are first-person RPG titles that let players use a combination of melee and ranged weapons. It wouldn’t make sense for Obsidian to switch up the gameplay much for the sequel, but we do expect some changes to be made. Maybe think of it as being like Fallout, but in space and another universe?
